through client-less administration.

ShaoLin Aptus eases the burden of installing and upgrading software on thousands of desktops

point management and monitoring of the entire ShaoLin Aptus fit client network anytime from any location. It provides a
convenient way to access all ShaoLin Aptus administration functions. Administrator able to manage the fit clients
as a whole, in separate groups, or even as individual desktop. From anywhere with a browser and authorized access,
administrators can securely connect to the Aptus server to manage any desktop in the network.

Aptus Configurator provides the capability to centrally monitor and control of ShaoLin
fit clients and user accounts with real-time graphical display, reporting, messaging service and control functions, such as

As a distributed processing system, ShaoLin Aptus makes fit clients run OS and applications
(eg. office suite, e-mail client, web browser) by using their own computing power. They are fully capable to deliver high
performance to run demanding applications, such as multimedia, streaming video, graphics design, and industrial CAD/CAM software.
Highly-Scalable Network Expansion
Since ShaoLin Aptus server would not use its memory to maintain any client sessions, so that
very little server resources will be consumed while the number of fit clients increase. Moreover, ShaoLin fit client does not
rely on server and using its own CPU and memory for computing. Therefore, both local processing model and stateless client-server
connection of ShaoLin Aptus makes the fit client network computing architecture very scalable. ShaoLin Aptus Professional adds
ShaoLin CogoFS which allows real time high performance compression over the network for further
scalability and throughput.
No High-Power Server Needed
Unlike thin client, ShaoLin fit client does not use server processing power, therefore, no high-power
server is needed to run ShaoLin Aptus. Once the programs are loaded from the server to the fit clients, they will run the same as
they do on traditional PC's. Since very limited server resources will be used by the fit clients, thus the loading of server is very low.

Resistance to Unknown Viruses
With Linux built-in high security, viruses triggered by users will not have permission to infect
program files. ShaoLin Aptus takes protection further, because ShaoLin fit clients use ShaoLin's unique
Intelligent Union Architecture to read-only share OS and applications from the server. Even the
infected client with an unknown virus will have almost no chance to infect system files. This minimizes the chance of virus
spread to the whole system and other clients. Additionally, Linux is also immune to Windows-based viruses as they are not
executable in Linux OS. |

Support Diskless Client Setup
ShaoLin Aptus clients work without the local hard drive, they can simply start-up from PXE,
boot floppy or boot ROM, and the Linux OS will be loaded from the server into the client machine memory over the network.
Since no hard drive is required on the clients, therefore hardware cost and energy cost will be saved, reliability and physical
security will be increased as well.
Full Access to Local System Resources
ShaoLin fit client able to access to all local drives and devices attached, such as CDROM,
hard drive, printer, providing seamless user experience and the flexibility of PC. As boot menu is provided by ShaoLin Aptus,
user also can choose to start-up the fit client with the existing OS, such as Windows, or other OSes on the local hard drive.
Use Standard Linux Distributions, Applications, and Drivers
Most Linux distributions (eg. RedHat, Mandrake, SuSE, UnitedLinux, etc.) are supported by
ShaoLin Aptus, no matter what's your favourable distribution, ShaoLin Aptus is here ready for you. It is also
completely transparent to applications and drivers, the fit clients able to run all Linux applications
and use all hardware drivers supported by Linux as in PC's.
Support Mixed Client Hardware
By using ShaoLin IUA, ShaoLin Aptus supports mixed client hardware
configurations with ease. Each client has its own profile with host specific configurations for
specific hardware drivers and software settings, even optimized Linux kernel. ShaoLin Aptus support mixed x86
CPU architecture, including Intel Pentium, AMD, Cyrix/VIA, and other Pentium compatible hardware. This means that while
your desktop hardware was purchased at different times and have different components, ShaoLin Aptus can still centralize
desktop management and lower the time you need to spend on Linux deployment.
Multi-User Desktop Environment
Global name space will be set by ShaoLin Aptus, consistent file and directory names
will be across all clients in the network. ShaoLin IUA controls the shared system
resources with user specific and host specific data, there is no need to plan and figure out which clients get
what software. As user profiles and data are centralised, users can log in at any workstation and have their own
specific settings and home directory access.
