Linux Desktop Business Solutions with ShaoLin Aptus |

Course Objectives:
This course is professionally designed for business users who plan to migrate their computer desktop systems
from Windows to Linux, and interested in gaining knowledge with Linux desktop environment for organization running on a
day-to-day operation. Participants will know how Linux ready for business use, and how to make Linux desktop migration
cost effectively and easily with ShaoLin Aptus software.
Participants will acquire a basic understanding of the Linux operating system, and learn to use Linux desktop and fundamental
desktop applications for daily work. The course will use a Linux distribution which is optimized for the desktop and has a
similar look and functions to Windows. The course will also include introduction on Windows to Linux migration solutions,
and Linux desktop deployment and management solution.
(Linux system administration is not covered in this course.) |

Linux Fundamental:
Introduction to Linux and GNU
Compare Linux and Windows on functions and process security model (multi-user and multi-task)
Linux/Unix Virtual File System difference with drive letters
File ownership and access permissions
Cost analysis and reliability
Linux Desktop Environment:
Logging in to and out from the system
Introduction to KDE, KDE Control Center and its utilities
Accessing CD-ROM / CD-RW drive and floppy disk
Linux Desktop Applications:
File manager (working with files, directories and permission control with users groups)
Searching for files
Archiving and compressing files
Printing and fax
Introduction to office applications (KaiOffice/OpenOffice, AbiWord)
E-mail programs (Evolution, Mozilla mail / KMail)
Common Linux Web browsers (Mozilla, Netscape)
FTP client program (gFTP) and accessing server at home using FTP
Introduction to common graphics programs (Gimp, Dia)
Linux Desktop Migration, Deployment and Management:
Introduction to ShaoLin Aptus Fit Client Solution with demo
Introduction to Samba basic usage with demo
Introduction to CrossOver Office with demo
Introduction to Win4Lin with demo
