The Service Monitoring Agent is designed to manage applications such as database, web server, mail server etc. Agents manages applications through a number of entry points including "online", "offline" and "monitor". The "online" entry point will start the application. The "offline" entry point will stop the applications. Other entry points such as "init", "clean" and "shutdown" will also be performed depending on the applications managed. The Agent integrate seamlessly with SIC or offer much flexibility in monitoring the managed applications. An agent can communicate in SMTP with a mail server and query a database server using SQL. SMAs allow precise efficient application availability control and monitor with vendor level certification. The use of SMA can maximize the availability of the target application and thus miminize unplanned downtime.
SMA LB aims to manage the Load Balancer services by executing these entry points "online", "offline", "monitor". SMA Postfix integrate with SIC (ShaoLin InfiniCluster) and effectively communicating the status change of the Postfix applications
1. Obtain the SMA package for your platform, in the case of SuSe on Power, "ShaoLin_InfiniCluster_SMA_lb-2.0-1.ppc.rpm" Install by running
#rpm -ivh ShaoLin_InfiniCluster_SMA_lb-2.0-1.ppc.rpm |
Or obtain the installation CD, insert the CD in the drive and run "install.sh"
2. Restart Cluster Manager
# /etc/init.d/slicmgr restart |
3. Check available resource type for added resource type
# /opt/slic/bin/sliccli listrestype ....... 20 lb service |
4. Define a resource group with a resource of this type and configure the resource using either the SAS(Shaolin Administration System) or Commandline
5. Define values for these attributes (MailContent, MailSubject are optional) :
LogDir: Directory containing log files of LB EventLogLevel: Threshold of the event logging Port: Port of the LB service ServerPoolConf: Confiuration file for the server pool MinThreadNum: Minimum number of threads in the thread pool MaxThreadNum: Maximum number of threads in the thread pool AdminSocketFile: File of the administration socket SIM: Filename of SIM DEMHTTPO: Filename of DEM HTTPO DEMHTTPC: Filename of DEM HTTPC DEMSSLA: Filename of DEM SSLA HMTMethod: Method used by the health monitoring thread HMTInterval: Interval between inspections of status of backend servers HMTTimeout: Timeout HMTntry: Number of times to try Interface: Interface to listen BackLogLength: Length of the listen back log SessionMapDB: Session Map DB filename SIMAttr: Attributes for a specific type of SIM SessionLiveTime: Session live time ServerList: List of servers in the server pool |
6. Test by enabling the Resource Group
